Mercury —

Mercury is the typeface I use consistently in all my work. It gets pressed into embossed cards, it is ofset printed, silkscreened, engraved in wood and laser etched into steel. It was designed by my favorite graphic designer and typographer Radim Peško from Amsterdam.

I use all eight weights of the typeface for various purposes. The reason for chosing it was its finely balanced mixture of a round and sharp feel, which makes it applicable in many different situations. I especially enjoy its line connections. It has the ability to resemble Helvetica in smaller type and at the same time to create a really unique feeling in larger poster applications.

One of my essential visual elements is the fluorescent green dot and Mercury carries a slight link to it with its mildly exaggerated i dots.

To celebrate the pleasure of working with Mercury I commissioned graphic designer Jakub Korous to design a set of seven illustrations that explore the theme of Mercury as a typeface and as a deep powerful word. — M Ch
