Coatstand 01 —

I designed Coatstand 01 as the complementing third piece for Barstool 02 and Table 01. The development lasted from march till june 2011, I consulted with Jakub Korous, Michal Peřina and Martin Žampach, the parametric models and technical documentation were done by Martin Žampach. The coatstand is in production by LUGI furniture maker.

Having worked with sticks on Barstool 02 and Table 01 I immediately felt threatened by the idea of a coatstand, because I did not want to fall in the trap of repeating the same interplay of forms. On the other hand we needed the coatstand to correspond with the other two pieces. I decided to use the most basic form of a freestanding coatstand and I concentrated on the way the three sticks are connected. I developed a construction method where each stick is differently shaped in the intersection, the first two feature each a different CNC groove and the last one stays straight. This means one less lathing operation which makes the production easier. Adding 6 small pegs is essential for clothes with hanging straps.

Coatstand 01 is CNC machined from solid ash wood just like Set 01, including the laser engraving of object details on one of the legs. It is available in a spectrum of wax surface finishes. — M Ch

Coatstand 01 is available through at the Stockist showroom and in use at HUB Prague.

Coatstand 01 is produced by LUGI.

1 — The tall and slim Lola lamp by Alberto Meda and Paolo Rizzatto features loose rivet connections in its construction. It is a trick to dissipate the energy that would otherwise cause the lamp to fall over. I used that same principle to give more balance to the coatstand without making it too wide. Its in the flexibility of the long sticks.
